FAQ's
Q. Do you perform background music?
A. Yes, PanNeubean Steel provides and modifies it's
musical repetoire for most settings and so encourages
the use of steelpan for any type of event.
(It's 'exotic'....'fresh'...'new'...'cool')
Wedding, Cocktail Hour, Reception, Birthday,
Restaurant, Festival, Club, Cruise Ship Theme,
Caribbean Theme, Corporate and other events.

Q. How long have you been playing
the Steelpan?
A. Because of my Jamaican-Caribbean roots and
my desire to be a part of my cultural heritage, I fell
in love and began playing the Steelpan more than 20 years ago.

Q. Why name the band PanNeubean Steel and how do you pronounce it?
A. PanNeubean Steel pronounced (Pan-nü-be-an Ste-al) was created to provide a musical outlet for the
Steelpan.  The name is a combination of the Steelpan’s recent invention and its Pan-African-Caribbean origin.

Q. Does PanNeubean Steel perform styles other than Caribbean music?
A. PanNeubean Steel was created to showcase the Steelpan’s versatility.  While reggae, soca, and calypso are
traditionally 'caribbean', we have incorporated a variety of musical styles into our repertoire.  The Steelpan adds
the Caribbean “spice”.  REGGAE, SOCA, CALYPSO, CLASSICAL, JAZZ, FUSION, FUNK, ZYDECO, R&B,
CONTEMPORARY and LATIN.  In other words we "Caribbean-ize" a spectrum of musical styles while still focusing
on what is audibly still caribbean.
Perfect for Caribbean Themed events.

Q. What are sequences or background tracks?  Does PanNeubean Steel use them?
A. Sequences are recordings made from electronic instruments...synthesizers, keyboards.  Background tracks
are often created from sequences so that vocalist, instrumentalist or in this case steelpan players have music
to play along with.

  • PanNeubean Steel supports LIVE music and does not incorporate Karaoke into our show.  We feel that
background tracks and sequences detract from the integrity of a live performance.

Q. I noticed that you are a Music Educator in addition to being a Musician, do you offer lessons or
workshops on the Steelpan?
A. Upon request, I give private Steelpan instruction to both children and adults.  I also offer formal workshops
to schools.

Q. Do you perform for Fundraisers and Non-Profit Organizations?
A.  Yes, we perform for both and periodically will decide to lower our rates as a way to donate some of our time
and musical talent to a worthy cause.  But, please do not assume that "we will" or that "we should" make any
free contributions on your behalf.  We are not a large corporation with large available funds.

Q.  What are your rates?
A.  Our rates are based on numerous details.  Travel distance, type of event, number of guests, sound
reinforcement required and performance length are all considered.  We also take pride in our continued
dedication to Quality, Professionalism and Artistry.  We are not just your everyday sort of band comprised of
members who dabble in caribbean music.  All of our band members have years of life experience:  Boston
